Which Sketchbook do I Choose?!

A series of posts on products I love to use. Enjoy!

Still trying to find the perfect sketchbook?! It’s definitely one of life’s challenges!

Sketchbooks need to be small enough to fit in a bag or pocket, but big enough to be useful. They need a hard cover to protect the pages but not be too heavy to haul around. The paper needs to withstand whichever products we choose to use. Then there’s cost and trying to balance the quality of the paper with our pocketbook.

I’ve settled on moleskine  as my sketchbook of choice.  I had been worried about the weight of the paper holding up to paints or bleeding through as I use pen and watercolor or glue with my collages. But I’ve had great luck with both the drawing or watercolor collectionMoleskine books also travel well--my Alaska travel system is super classy and involves a gallon ziplock to protect against tides and rain, but these books slip into a suitcase or pack nicely, too.

Plus, moleskine books come in a variety of sizes and have that nifty elastic band to hold the book shut! So cool!

In the end, sketchbooks are a compact and tidy way to see our evolution as artists and creatives. It’s both fun and appalling to look back and see what we’ve created over the years!

And no, I don't know how to pronounce moleskine correctly, but they make a great gift!
